Qwest offers mobile laptop service in which customers can access the Internet from their laptop computers when they are away from home. Customers must have a laptop with a Type A USB port, Qwest Mobile Laptop Card and Qwest Mobile Data Plan in order to use this service. Qwest customers looking for wireless phone service can subscribe to Verizon Wireless plans through Qwest, saving money by bundling phone service with other Qwest services.
What is Qwest Wireless Service?
With Qwest mobile laptop service, customers receive nationwide wireless Internet coverage to their laptops. This means customers can surf the web while away from home. A small, lightweight device, called a Qwest Mobile Laptop card is inserted into the laptop in order for the computer to go online. This service also features operating system support for Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac customers. With Verizon Wireless through Qwest, customers can subscribe to mobile device packages with Verizon but bundle their service with other Qwest offerings, such as home Internet.
What is Required for Qwest Wireless?
In order to get Qwest mobile laptop wireless service, several requirements must be met. Necessary equipment includes a laptop with a Type A USB port; a qualifying operating system, such as Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000 with at least Service Pack 1, Apple Mac or Linux; 667 MHz processor or better; at least 128 MB of memory and a minimum of 100 MB of disc space. Customers must then purchase the Qwest Mobile Laptop card and subscribe to the Qwest Mobile Laptop Data Plan.
What are the Costs?
Qwest wireless service can have a least two different costs. The first cost is purchasing the Qwest Mobile laptop card. Three prices are available for the card; the options include the regular price, one-year agreement price and two-year agreement price. The card is significantly less expensive to purchase as the length of agreement increases. The second cost is the monthly fee for the Qwest Mobile Laptop Data Plan, which is what provides the Internet service. This plan is available for a set monthly fee with a discount available to subscribers of Qwest Broadband home Internet service. Mobile wireless plans from Verizon through Qwest vary depending on the type of package selected. More minutes, texting and features are more expensive.
What is Included in the Starter Kit?
Customers receive a starter kit when they subscribe to Qwest Mobile Laptop service. The starter kit provides everything needed to access the Internet from a laptop computer with Qwest. The equipment consists of a Franklin CDU-680 Mobile Laptop USB Card, connection manager software, user guide, USB y-cable, quick install guide and nylon protective pouch.
