How Do I Get Free Cable From Time Warner?

by Andy Jackson, Demand Media

Time Warner Cable is a subscription television service that offers basic and digital programming in addition to premium channels, such as HBO and Showtime. Subscribers must have Time Warner equipment and pay a monthly fee to access programming. It is illegal for anyone to alter or tamper with Time Warner cabling or equipment to get free services. Some individuals and companies may qualify for free cable from Time Warner if they meet certain criteria.

Step 1

Become a Time Warner Cable employee or eligible vendor. All Time Warner Cable employees are eligible for free programming as part of their employment benefits. Eligible vendors include installation technicians that work for third-party installation companies and door-to-door sales personnel. To become a Time Warner Cable employee or vendor, apply directly with Time Warner Cable or with the third-party company.

Step 2

Register as a charity or school and apply for support. Time Warner Cable donates free cable and broadband access to school and other charitable organizations as part of their community outreach services. Time Warner Cable also provides in-kind and monetary donations. To apply, contact Time Warner Cable's Connect a Million Minds or Cable in the Classroom programs.

Step 3

Move into an apartment or condominium complex that includes Time Warner Cable as part of the rent or condo fees. Buildings that offer this service generally offer basic programming free of charge. For more advanced programming, such as digital or premium channels, you would pay an additional fee.

Step 4

Call Time Warner Cable customer service and request a credit. This process works only if you have experienced an outage or loss of service where Time Warner Cable is at fault. When you call the customer service line, the company will verify that you have experienced an outage and credit your account for the time lost. Your cable would only be free for the amount of time it wasn't working.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you move into a residence that already has cable, such as a house where the previous owner had cable and did not disconnect the service, do not use this service without opening your own Time Warner Cable account. Doing so is considered theft and is illegal.
  • If you find that the cable service is still active, contact Time Warner immediately.
