A digital subscriber Line (DSL) connection is a type of broadband Internet connection that is delivered to your home or office via your phone line wiring. Unlike dial-up modems, however, it does not actually utilize the phone system, so you can still make telephone calls while surfing the Internet. Of course, before you can do any surfing you will have to connect the DSL modem to your computer.
Step 1
Turn off both your computer and your modem. This will prevent any unforeseen damage or errors from occurring when you connect the two together.
Step 2
Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the corresponding port on the back of the DSL modem.
Step 3
Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your computer. The port resembles a phone-line jack, only wider.
Step 4
Turn on your modem first, then your computer. The computer should recognize the DSL connection and allow you to utilize the broadband service.
