AT&T; offers DSL-based Internet connections to its subscribers at various speeds and prices. No matter your plan, AT&T; provides you with a DSL modem, or you can connect to AT&T;'s service through your own DSL modem. Whatever method you choose, your connection can stop working. Maybe you have local network access only, or perhaps your home network isn't even operational. Whatever the state of your DSL connection, you can repair it through Windows.
Step 1
Click the network icon in your task bar. Click "Open Network and Sharing Center." This opens the "Network and Sharing Center" window.
Step 2
Click "Change adapter settings." Right-click your AT&T; DSL connection. Click "Diagnose." This opens a diagnostics window that attempts to find any problems with your network connection. Click "Try these repairs as an administrator."
Step 3
Unplug the power cable from your DSL modem. Wait 30 seconds and plug the power cable back into your DSL modem. This is called power cycling. Wait another 20 to 30 seconds to allow the modem to reacquire its connection.
Step 4
Check all cables to make certain they're properly seated in their jacks. The exact number of cables to check varies by your DSL modem. Also check any Ethernet cables plugged into your router, if you're using a router. If the connection still isn't working, power cycle your router as well.
Step 5
Contact AT&T; customer support if your connection still isn't repaired.
