As of the time of publication, Time Warner Cable's highest and fastest tier of Internet service is Wideband Internet, which is twice as fast as the company's Road Runner service. Wideband was introduced in select cities in 2009, without rollout to other markets planned in phases.
Speed
The Wideband Internet service allows customers to download at speeds up to 50 Mbps and reach upstream speeds of 5 Mbps. This service is suited to those who download large files, play online video games, watch streaming video, listen to streaming music or are general multitaskers. Time Warner promotes Wideband as a service with a massive bandwidth that lets subscribers stream HD video without the standard buffering that can occur with slower Internet connections.
Features
Time Warner Cable provides Wideband subscribers with 30 email addresses. Additionally, Wideband customers receive online storage through Time Warner and CA Internet Security Suite to help protect against viruses, spyware, spam and phishing. Through the Internet security program, parents can set up controls so children are protected from inappropriate websites, chatrooms, webmail and social networks.
Minimum System Requirements
To use Wideband Internet service, computers must have 300MB of free hard drive space, though 500MB is recommended. Additionally, PCs must have 128MB of memory, or RAM, and Mac computers require at least 256MB of RAM. PCs must run on Windows XP or later and Macs must run on OS X 10.4 or later.
