High Definition Television (HDTV) sets connect to audio-visual components with a variety of input jacks to reproduce picture and sound. With a digital cable box, you can enjoy multi-channel audio with a surround sound receiver connected to the HDTV. A VCR for recording programs to videotape connects to a separate set of jacks on the surround sound receiver. Digital cable boxes are equipped with a converter for transforming signals to play on analog equipment, so you do not need to hook up a separate converter box with the VCR.
Step 1
Turn off the power to all components before connecting your AV cables.
Step 2
Connect one HDMI cable from the matching output on the back of the digital cable box to any HDMI input on the back of the surround sound receiver.
Step 3
Plug in the second HDMI cable from the "Video" or "TV" output on the surround sound receiver to any HDMI jack on the HDTV.
Step 4
Insert the three colored plugs on one end of a composite cable into the playback jacks on the back of the VCR. Connect the three plugs on the opposite end to the input jacks labeled for a VCR on the back of the surround sound receiver.
Step 5
Hook up the remaining composite cable from the recording jacks on the VCR to the output jacks labeled for a VCR on the rear of your surround sound receiver.
