How to Connect Digital Cable to HDTV

by Joshua Benjamin, Demand Media

Digital cable boxes are small electronic devices that take the video signal from your cable provider and convert it into a digital signal that can be read and displayed on your TV. You can also connect the digital cable to an HDTV in order to take advantage of the clearer picture available from the digital signal as opposed to the older analog signal.

Step 1

Connect one end of the coaxial cable to an active wall jack.

Step 2

Connect the other end of the cable to the back of the digital cable box.

Step 3

Plug one end of the HD cable into the appropriate connector jack on the back of the digital cable box. There are several different types of HD cables you might use: Component cables look like standard audio/video cables except they are colored green, blue and red; HDMI cables look like slightly deformed USB cables and digital video cables look like overlarge computer monitor cables.

Step 4

Plug the other end of the HD cable into the corresponding jack on the back of the TV.
