The Nintendo Wii does not include an Ethernet port for wired Internet connections. However, the separately sold Wii LAN Adapter allows you to connect the Wii to a broadband modem (cable or DSL) using an Ethernet cable. Although it's not as convenient as a wireless connection, a wired connection is generally more reliable and produces less latency when playing online Wii games. In addition to playing games online, an Internet-connected Wii also has access to the Wii Shop Channel, the official store for free and premium Wii content, such as Wii Channels and game downloads.
Step 1
Turn off the Nintendo Wii, connect the Wii LAN Adapter to the USB port on the back of the Wii and turn it back on. The Wii Channel Menu will load.
Step 2
Select the "Wii" icon on the bottom of the Wii Channel Menu. Select "Wii Settings," then "Internet" and then "Connection Settings."
Step 3
Select "Wired Connection," then "OK" to begin testing the connection. After the test is complete, the Wii will be connected online.
