Does Qwest Offer DSL?

Consumers should consider their Internet needs before settling on a service plan.

Qwest is a service provider of Internet and home phone service. Through Qwest, customers also have access to DirecTV and Verizon Wireless services, all of which can be bundled with Qwest services for discounted rates. The Internet service Qwest provides is high-speed DSL service with download speeds as fast as 40 Mbps (megabytes per second). Qwest has also installed even faster fiber-optic Internet service in select cities.

1.5 to 7 Mbps

There are several options for DSL Internet through Qwest, the least expensive of which are the 1.5 and 7 Mbps plans. The least expensive plan provides download speeds up to 1.5 Mbps and upload speeds as fast as 896 Kbps (kilobytes per second). The next plan provides download speeds up to 7 Mbps with upload speeds as fast as 5 Mbps. The 7 Mbps plan is slightly more expensive than the 1.5 Mbps plan, though the speed difference is not significant; it is estimated that a 4 MB music file would download in 8 seconds with the 1.5 plan and 6 seconds with the 7 plan.

12 Mbps

The middle Internet plan from Qwest has download speeds as fast as 12 Mbps. Upload speeds for this plan are as fast as 5 Mbps. A 4 MB music file is estimated to download in 4 seconds with this plan. This plan is the middle option for speed and price with Qwest. Qwest states that this plan is appropriate for "high-demand" online tasks, while the less expensive plans are geared more toward basic home use.

20 Mbps

The 20 Mbps plan from Qwest offers download speeds up to 20 Mbps. The upload speeds are up to 5 Mbps. This plan offers the power needed to accomplish nearly any Internet task, according to Qwest. The estimated download speed for a 4 MB music file is 2 seconds, which is twice as fast as the 12 Mbps plan.

40 Mbps

Qwest's fastest and most expensive DSL plan offers download speeds up to 40 Mbps. The upload speed is as much as 5 Mbps. Qwest estimates that a 4 MB music file can be successfully downloading in as little as 1 second with this plan. This plan is considered "Pro" by Qwest, meaning it can handle "heavy duty" Internet use. This plan and all others can be bundled with your home phone, television service by DirecTV through Qwest and Verizon Wireless services.
