Qwest is owned by CenturyLink, which is the third largest telecommunications company in the U.S. Qwest provides local and long distance telephone service to customers around the country. On the other hand, Pioneer Telephone provides access to long distance services for customers who already have basic home telephone service with a local company but want to use a different long distance provider. Customers who use home telephone companies, such as Bell South, SBC, Verizon and Ameritech, for local service can use Pioneer long distance service.
Qwest Home Phone Plus
Qwest Home Phone Plus provides customers with unlimited local calling for a monthly fee of $35. Home Phone Plus customers pay five cents per minute for long distance calls. They also have a choice of up to 10 optional features, such as caller ID, call waiting, three-way calling, call forwarding and call rejection. Customers who rarely make long distance calls or who want a lower monthly rate and affordable long distance fees can save money with the Qwest Home Phone Plus plan.
Qwest Home Phone Unlimited
Qwest Home Phone Unlimited costs $45 per month but includes unlimited nationwide calling. Home Phone Unlimited customers can choose up to 10 optional calling features and enjoy unlimited local calling in addition to long distance calling. Calls to Canada using Qwest cost 7 cents per minute. Qwest offers customers a 60 Minute Canada Savings plan to help save money on the first 60 minutes of calls to Canada. Calls to Mexico are 5 cents per minute.
Pioneer Interstate
Pioneer telephone offers long distance rates that start at 2.7 cents per minute. There is no monthly fee for the Pioneer long distance service for customers who spend $15 per month for long distance calls. Your local telephone calls are handled by a local service provider, and Pioneer will carry your long distance calls. Calls between Pioneer customers are only 2 cents per minute. Calls to Canada are 6 cents per minute. Rates vary for other countries.
Pioneer In-State
In-state long distance rates vary with the Pioneer service. In-state toll rates begin at 3.25 cents per minute. For example, rates for in-state long distance calls in Kentucky are 3.3 cents per minute. Florida in-state rates are 8 cents per minute. Calls from one Pioneer customer to another Pioneer customer are still 2 cents per minute. Potential customers can input the first seven digits of their telephone number to get a rate quote for their state.
