Time Warner Cable Universal Remote Control Codes

by Rob Kemmett, Demand Media

Time Warner Cable provides customers who subscribe to their cable television service with a universal remote control for each television in the household. Universal remote controls work with multiple brands and styles of televisions. To synchronize the remote with a television, you must enter a pass code using the remote control. Time Warner Cable supplies customers with a pamphlet containing a list of control codes for various brands of televisions. The remote control will not work if the correct code is not entered.

Universal Remotes

When you purchase a television, it often comes with a remote control. That remote control is specifically designed to be used with the television with which it came; it will not work on other televisions. Universal remote controls like the one supplied with Time Warner Cable television services are capable of working with multiple televisions, not just one. In order to use the remote, you must enter a pass code. The pass code synchronizes the signal of the remote control with the signal of the television. Once synchronized, the remote will control the television's power, change channels, adjust the volume and more.

Entering the Code

Power on the television. Point the remote away from the television. Press and hold the "TV" and "Select" buttons until the red LED light on the remote blinks twice. Enter the setup code. The code is either three or four digits and is found on Time Warner's Set Up Code List. The list is arranged by brand of television and contains a list of codes compatible with each brand. Some brands have multiple compatible codes. If the code entered is the correct one for the television, the red LED light will blink twice. If the LED light does not blink twice, start the setup process again and enter the next code for the brand of television which you are attempting to synchronize. Once you find the correct code, point the remote at the television and test the channel, volume, mute and power functions.
