Connecting a TV cable box to your VCR lets you record favorite shows and programs to a VHS cassette so you can view them later. Modern cable boxes use composite audio-video jacks with separate left and right channels for stereo sound recording on the VCR and playback on your TV. The color-coded cables for this connection match with the jacks for quick setup. Connect an extra set of cables from the VCR to the TV to play back your video recordings.
Step 1
Plug in the white, red and yellow connectors on one end of a cable into the three outputs on the back of the cable box.
Step 2
Insert the connectors on the other end of the cable into the three jacks labeled as input or record on the back of the VCR. The exact label on the jacks varies with the VCR model.
Step 3
Hook up the second composite cable from the output/playback jacks on your VCR to the matching inputs on the back of the television. If your TV has more than one set of inputs, make a note of which set is used to connect to the VCR, such as "Video 2."
Step 4
Press the video input key on the TV remote control to activate the jacks that connect your set to the VCR.
