How to Hide a Dish Network DVR in a Basement & Control It From the Living Room

Step 1

Connect the tuner input jack of the TV into an existing wall cable outlet, using the supplied coaxial cable, then turn the TV on.

Step 2

Press the channel selection buttons on the TV and find three channels, that are next to each other, that do not pick up any broadcast signals. Tune the TV to the middle channel in the series and write the channel number on a piece of paper for later use. This is the channel you will use to receive satellite programming.

Step 3

Place the DVR receiver in the basement and connect the supplied coaxial cable to the previously installed home cabling system jack. If the previously selected tuning channel is between 21 and 69, connect the cable to the receiver using the "CH 21-69" input jack. This is the "Air setting" for the device. If the channel is between 73 and 125, use the corresponding input jack on the receiver. This is the "Cable" setting. Install the supplied UHF antenna at the antenna jack on the back of the receiver.

Step 4

Plug the receiver into the electrical outlet and turn the unit on. Press the MENU button on the receiver and use the arrow buttons to select "SystemSetup," "Installation," then "Modulator Setup." The screen is displayed on the nearby TV.

Step 5

Stand in front of the TV and press the "TV Out" button on the supplied remote control. Use the arrow buttons to select "Air" or "Cable," depending on your previous tuning channel selection, then select "Done." The unit is now ready for use.
