How do I Program a DVR Remote Control?

by Chad Buleen, Demand Media

With a DVR you can record television shows, live sporting events, news programs, movies and anything else that your cable provider includes on its programming. You can set your DVR to automatically begin to delete content when the DVR starts to run out of space or you can choose to save some shows that the DVR will never delete unless you manually do so. Your DVR remote control is able to control the cable box as well as a number of other devices, such as the television, DVD player and sound system.

Step 1

Press the "Power" button on the DVR to turn on the device. Then press the "Cable" button on the remote.

Step 2

Press the "Setup" button and hold it until it blinks twice; then release the button.

Step 3

Enter the four-digit code of your device, which you can find DVR remote programming guide. The light on the remote will blink twice when the you enter the code.

Step 4

Point the remote at the device and press the "Power" button. The device you programmed to work with your DVR remote control will turn off. Press "Power" again to turn it back on.
