DirecTV is Verizon's satellite television service. You can choose to either have a Verizon technician come and do all of the installation for you, or you can opt to perform the installation yourself. You've managed successfully to install the satellite dish on your building, and you've run the coaxial cable into your building. Now, that cable needs to meet up with the DVR receiver. However, you also want to use that connection for another device, such as a second receiver. You can install the first receiver using a splitter.
Step 1
Find your DirecTV DVR receiver unit. This is usually located near the television with DirecTV service. If your DVR receiver isn't yet set up, place it on your entertainment center or TV stand near the TV using the service.
Step 2
Locate the coaxial cable entering your house from the DirecTV satellite dish installed on the exterior of your building.
Step 3
Insert the coaxial cable in your building leading from the satellite dish into the "IN" jack on the coaxial cable splitter. If there are no identifying markings, the input side is normally the one with only one coaxial jack.
Step 4
Screw one end of a coaxial cable into one of the available jacks on the other side of the splitter. Plug the other end of this cable into the coaxial jack on the back of the DVR receiver labelled "Satellite In."
