While your high-speed DSL broadband connection may suffice in your home or workplace, there are many advantages to having a wireless connection. Since the Internet signals are transmitted wirelessly, you have the ability to transfer files between multiple computers from a variety of different locations with convenience and portability. Regardless of which Internet provider you choose, all you need is an Ethernet cable, wireless router and DSL modem to set up a wireless network in your home or office.
Step 1
Power off your DSL modem and disconnect any cables that are connected to the computer. If you have an Ethernet cable connecting your computer and modem, you can use the same Ethernet cable to connect your wireless router to your modem.
Step 2
Attach one end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet NIC port on the back of your DSL modem and the other end of the Ethernet cable to an open Ethernet port on the back of your wireless router.
Step 3
Wait for your modem and wireless router to establish an Internet connection. Once the connection has been established, you should notice a blinking green light next to the "wireless" icon on your router.
