To be clear, if you know for certain that DSL service is not offered in your area, then you cannot get DSL service from any service provider. However, if your goal is to obtain some form of high-speed internet connectivity, you may have several other options available to you other than DSL service. Options include service from cable providers, fiber-optic service from companies such as AT&T; or Verizon, or satellite-based connectivity if all the other options are unavailable.

Step 1

Contact the company the provides your landline telephone service and ask if they are able to offer high-speed internet service to your home. If they do, collect the service information and prices, since you may still have other options.

Step 2

Contact the company or companies that provide cable TV service in your area. Many cable companies also provide internet service. Collect this information as well along with pricing to compare with any service options from your telephone company.

Step 3

Contact satellite-based internet providers to determine if these solutions will work for your needs. Some of these companies include WildBlue and HughesNet.

Step 4

Research other possible high-speed internet providers using a search utility such as MyISPFinder.org. Such a utility allows you search for broadband, satellite, and dial-up providers all from a single web page.
