With cell phone plans getting less expensive, the landline phone has transformed into all but a dinosaur, and it is often not the necessity it once was. If you have kept your landline, you may be paying for services and features that you never or hardly ever use. Consider that, along with other factors, to lower your monthly landline bill.
Step 1
Call your landline service provider's customer service department. Bundle your phone service with another service, such as Internet, cable and utility services. This bundled price provides you with a reduced monthly rate for each service.
Step 2
Switch your landline services to a different company that offers cheaper rates for bundling services, if there are multiple choices in your area.
Step 3
Study the charges on your monthly landline bill. Review how much you use long-distance calling. Familiarize yourself with all the monthly features, and their charges and related fees. Ask the company's customer service representative about any charges that you can't identify yourself.
Step 4
Switch your landline plan to include unlimited long distance, if you dial long distance often. Cancel any features that you never use. This may include such features as three-way calling.
Step 5
Switch your landline service to a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) provider. These providers allow you to conduct your local and long-distance calls via the Internet, often at a discounted price when compared to traditional landline service providers.
