Unlike the standard RCA cables, component cables are a special type of video cable designed for transmitting HDTV signals from a video device to a television. These cables have color coded plugs that correspond to the appropriate color coded jacks on the TV. Be sure to match the correct plug with the correct jack as you make the connections.
Step 1
Examine the back of the video device to find the "Component-Out" jacks. These sockets are colored red, green and blue. Make sure you are working with the "output" plugs and not the "input" plugs, because the former are for transmitting the video signal while the latter are for receiving signals.
Step 2
Connect the plugs at one end of the component cable into the color-coded jacks. Red connects to red, blue to blue and green to green.
Step 3
Examine your TV and locate the "Component-In" jacks. They are colored the same as the "Component-Out" ports on the video device. Again, make sure they are the "In" ports and not "Out" ports.
Step 4
Connect the plugs at the other end of the component cable into the appropriate ports on the TV.
