Microsoft's Xbox 360 gaming console has integrated wireless networking built in. Networking allows you to play on The Xbox LIVE multiplayer gaming system and share media with a Windows PC. Alternatively, you can connect the Xbox with an Ethernet cable. Connecting the console to the U-verse high-speed Internet service provided by AT&T; involves making some configuration changes.
Step 1
Power-up the U-verse wireless gateway and wait for the "Broadband" and "Service" lights to turn solid green. While you're waiting, write down the network name and "Wireless Network Key" that's on the side of the gateway. The network name will start with "2WIRE" and include some numerals.
Step 2
Select the Xbox "Dashboard" settings and choose the wireless networking area. Follow the prompts on the screen to enter the details that you obtained in the first step. The Xbox will detect the network and then perform some tests. Allow the configuration to complete and the Xbox will connect to the Internet via the U-verse gateway.
Step 3
Connect to Xbox LIVE from the Xbox dashboard and follow the prompts to create a free account.
Step 4
Restart the U-verse gateway and Xbox if you can't connect to Xbox LIVE. Turn off the Xbox and the network equipment. Wait a minute and then turn the network equipment on and allow the lights to turn solid green. Then turn the Xbox on.
Tips & Warnings
- If you continue to have problems, or if your U-verse installation isn't wireless, use an Ethernet cable between the AT&T; router equipment and the Ethernet jack on the Xbox. The jack is the lower port in the second from right batch of ports on the back of the Xbox.
