You can choose from a wide viriety of modems for your Qwest DSL Internet service. They are available through Qwest or many computer and electronics stores. The most important things to keep in mind when choosing a modem are the device's computer system requirements and security features; the modem's technical capacity to handle the speed; its coverage and characteristics of the particular Qwest DSL connection you will be using.

Actiontec GT701 WG

The Actiontec GT701-WG DSL modem supports more than one computer at home or office. Like many other modems suitable for your Qwest Internet connection, the GT701-WG model offers a firewall-like protection through its own Network Address Translations (NAT), which cloaks the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of each computer connected to the network. Qwest will provide you with technical support if you want to work with a wireless connection using an adapter.

ZyXEL FR1000z

The ZyXEL FR1000z will let you connect up to four computers in a local area network (LAN) through four Ethernet ports. Although the model comes with its own security, you can configure an onboard firewall through the Qwest Modem Web Interface, which offers a step-by-step procedure. You can add additional firewall software to strengthen your ZyXEL FR1000z connection.

Intel PRO/DSL 2100 and 2200 Modem

Some computer manufacturers deliver their equipment with preinstalled modems into their systems. The PRO/DSL 2100 and 2200 modems from Intel, for example, will function properly with your Qwest Internet connection. It is important to know, however, that your particular Internet service characteristics will work with any of these models. First, identify which one you have installed in your computer, since they both operate in a different manner. Furthermore, this will let you download or install the driver(s) for the correct modem to communicate properly.

Actiontec PK5000

Just like the ZyXEL FR1000z, the PK5000 includes four Ethernet ports to work with several computers. Furthermore, its Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) will help you to install a secure wireless connection, even if you know little about wireless safety. Still, Qwest will provide the necessary support to help you set up your wireless connection. The PK500 has other advantages: It includes external and internal antennas for a strong wireless signal, extra memory for added Qwest features, and wired and wireless networking capabilities.

Qwest Advanced Networking Modem

You can rent the Qwest Advanced Networking Modem to connect up to five computers simultaneously, allowing you to share the Internet connection, files and printers. If your modem fails or you upgrade the Internet service, you can easily replace your QAN Modem directly from Qwest.
