Qwest mail is an email service available to Qwest Internet customers. You can set up 10 email addresses for your home or office with your Qwest account, or you can set it up to receive all your existing email accounts in one place. Qwest works with a variety of operating systems and provides technical support on the Internet or over the phone for certain email applications. The My Qwest website offers free video tutorials on getting started and managing your Qwest email.
Supported and Unsupported Applications
Qwest provides technical support for the following email applications: Microsoft Outlook 2003 and 2007, Windows Vista Mail, Macintosh Mail, Windows Live desktop and webmail and MSN Mail. This means that if you have these applications on your computer, you can call or go online for help. Qwest offers tutorials, support forums and online chat rooms to assist you. Qwest doesn't support Microsoft Outlook Express or Outlook 2010, Windows Live 2011, Incredimail, Entourage, Eudora or Thunderbird. If you have one of these applications, you can still set up a Qwest email account, but Qwest doesn't provide technical support after setup.
Setup
Visit the Qwest Internet Help (qwest.com) website to get started and click on the icon for your computer's email application. Click on the appropriate link in the "my email address ends in:" section under "Set Up." If you have an existing account, choose from the following options: "q.com," "live.com," "hotmail.com," "msn.com," "qwest.net" or "qwestoffice.net." If your current email ends in something different, click on the "yourdomain.com" link. A PDF document with setup instructions will appear.
Using Qwest Email
Visit the My Qwest website for video tutorials on using your account and troubleshooting. Move your cursor over the tabs on the top of the page to see drop-down menus for each category. Click on the subject you want to see, and then click the "Play" button in the center of the screen on the right. Along with the video, written instructions appear on the left side of the page.
Email Security
Qwest uses Port 25 filtering to help protect your computer from viruses and spam. Most viruses are delivered through port 25, so Qwest monitors communications for malware and unsolicited email. It also keeps your computer from accessing servers outside the Qwest network through port 25. You can disable port 25 filtering if you use your own email server or if it disrupts a particular application you're using, but it's a good idea to keep it enabled otherwise.
