How to Configure a DI-704P Connected to a DSL Modem

by Joshua Benjamin, Demand Media

The D-Link DI-740P is the technical name for the D-Link ExpressConnect broadband router, which is an electronic device that allows multiple computers or other Internet-ready devices to connect to a broadband signal from a single connection point. The router is not a plug-and-play device, however. You will need to configure it's initial settings through your computer's browser window.

Step 1

Connect one end of your Ethernet cable into the "LAN Port 1" port on the back of the router, then plug the other end into the Ethernet port on your computer.

Step 2

Restart your computer, then connect any other computers that you want to utilize the router's connection to the router.

Step 3

Launch your Web browser and type "192.168.0.1" into the address bar. Press "Enter" to open the router's configuration page.

Step 4

Type "Admin" into the "user name" field when the dialog box pops up. Leave the "Password" box blank and click "OK."

Step 5

Click the "Run Wizard" button

Step 6

Click "Next," then set a new administrative password for the router. You will need to type in this password whenever you attempt to access the router's configuration page.

Step 7

Click "Next" again, then select your IP type. Most users will wish to use the "Dynamic IP" option. Click "Next" after you have made your choice.

Step 8

Click the "Clone Mac" button and click "Next" again.

Step 9

Click the "Restart" button to finish your configuration.
