Qwest is the third-largest telecommunications company in the United States by number of active lines. It provides cable, Internet and phone services nationwide and merged with CenturyLink to nearly double its network access points. Qwest is also investing in fiber-optic cable, as shown by its 190,000-mile fiber network that spans the United States from coast to coast.
Coverage
Qwest provides telecommunication services to 37 states. These include Wyoming, Wisconsin, Washington, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Tennessee, South Dakota, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Oklahoma, Ohio, North Dakota, New Mexico, New Jersey, Nevada, Nebraska, Montana, Missouri, Mississippi, Minnesota, Michigan, Louisiana, Kansas, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Idaho, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, California, Arkansas, Arizona and Alabama. Coverage in California and Oklahoma, however, is of only 100 and 2,000 service users, respectively.
Packages
One of the benefits of going with a full telecommunications company, as opposed to a single-service provider, is you can get discounts when you bundle two or more of its services. Qwest allows you to combine your Internet, DirectTV and phone service into one bill. For instance, as of the time of publication, if you bundle a 1.5 Mbps Internet connection, DirectTV cable and unlimited home phone service for a cost of $90 a month. If you purchase those same services separately, it would cost over $105 a month.
Flexibility
Although Qwest provides a full media telecommunications package, you do not have to buy into services you don't want, don't need or can't afford. For instance, if all you need is Internet and phone service, you can combine these services by buying into an Internet without phone service and use voice over Internet protocol for your home phone use.
Verizon Wireless
If you have or want to have a contract with Verizon wireless, you have one more reason to choose Qwest. Verizon now offers its nationwide wireless service through Qwest. If you combine your Verizon contract with your Qwest service you can save money and pay for both services with one bill. You will also receive Qwest's Voice Messaging Link on your cell phone and have the option of bundling all your numbers into one number service, so people only need one number to contact you whichever phone you are using.
