Toshiba 570 DVR Vs. Magnavox HD160

The Toshiba 570 DVR and Magnavox HD160 refers to the Toshiba DR570 and the Magnavox 160GB, also known as the Magnavox H2160MW9. These are DVD recorders from consumer electronics manufacturers Toshiba and Magnavox, respectively. The Magnavox product in particular is named after its built-in 160GB hard drive.

Main Features

The Toshiba DR570 and Magnavox H2160MW9 are mainly used to play and record DVDs. The accommodated formats include DVD Video and the plus and minus recordable DVD formats. The devices, however, also play CDs, which include MP3 audio compatibility, CD-Rs and CD-RWs; Video CD, which preceded the DVD format, and Kodak Picture CD for viewing pictures in JPEG format. Using progressive scan technology, each DVD player/recorder supports up to 1,920 by 1,080 pixels in television display resolution.

Recording Functions

The Toshiba DR570 and Magnavox H2160MW9 have the following recording modes: XP, SP, LP, EP, HQ, SLP. Also, each device records using the DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW formats and relies on tuning that adheres to the Advanced Television Systems Committee digital and National Television System Committee analog standards. Magnavox added a sixth recording mode, HQ, on the H2160MW9.

Connectors

Each Toshiba DR570 and Magnavox H2160MW9 has a High Definition Multimedia Interface, which is the standard input for HD televisions. Also included are S-video input and output, component video and composite audio/video connectors and coaxial digital audio output. The Magnavox player and recorder includes an RF input and output as well as a FireWire port for wired networking.

Physical Dimensions and Weight

The Toshiba DR570 has a width of 16.54 inches, height of 2.32 inches and depth of 9.72 inches, with a shipping weight of around 13 lbs. The Magnavox H2160MW9 has a width of 16.5 inches, height of 2.3 inches and depth of 11.4 inches, with a shipping weight of around 11 lbs.
