How to Update Virus Definitions in Charter Security

by Emilio Alvarez, Demand Media

Charter Security Suite or CSS is a service provided by Charter, a communications company and Internet Service Provider. This suite includes a variety of safeguard features that help you protect your computer from external Internet threats when browsing the Web. Features include email filtering, browsing protection, parental control, spyware protection and anti-virus protection. The anti-virus and scanning feature is enabled by default, yet the automatic updates can be disabled easily. If this option has been disabled, you can manually check for the latest virus definitions through the Charter Security application settings.

Step 1

Log in to the system where you wish to update the virus definition for Charter Security.

Step 2

Right-click the Windows taskbar by right-clicking an empty space and deselecting the "Lock the Taskbar" option, if locked.

Step 3

Double-click the "Charter Security Suite" icon, noted by a lock figure, adjacent to the Windows system clock. The Charter Security Suite window will open.

Step 4

Select the "Automatic Updates" button, located on the left pane. Click the "Check Now" option within the "Details" section to begin updating the latest virus definition. Allow the update process to complete without interruption.
