Can I Get Just DSL Service From Verizon?

by Kristin N. Fitzgerald, Demand Media

As the largest cell phone company in the United States, Verizon Wireless has gained millions of customers through its nationwide availability and variety of service plans. The company has partnered with DirecTV to offer satellite television packages and Verizon now provides DSL and FiOS Internet services. While Verizon offers discounted prices when customers bundle these services, customers can also buy services separately.

High Speed Internet

Verizon provides two DSL Internet plans. The first is simply called "high speed Internet" and it includes 9 email accounts and 10MB of personal web space. Verizon also provides a free wireless router in this package. The download speed is .5 to 1 Mb per second, so it's best suited to casual Internet users. The second plan is "high speed Internet advanced." It too comes with 9 email accounts and a free wireless router but it offers three different speeds at different prices. The speeds range from 1.1 15 Mb per second, depending on the price of the customer's package. The advanced package serves gamers and those with multiple computers at home.

FiOS Internet

FiOS is a recent addition to Verizon Wireless' Internet packages. FiOS runs on fiber optic cables, making it much faster than traditional DSL or cable Internet services. FiOS costs more than Verizon's high speed Internet but provides much more speed for downloading HD movies and large photos or files. Like the DSL packages, FiOS rates depend on the speed a customer chooses.

Bundles

While some consumers may choose to buy only Internet services, Verizon offers bundles that include two or three services. Customers can choose from Internet, television and landline services. Bundled packages can include either high speed or FiOS Internet, both at a variety of prices and speeds.

Discounts

Verizon Wireless provides potential customers with several discounted Internet options. Bundles reduce the price of the individual services but those who only want the Internet might prefer a contract discount instead. Customers who already have a cell phone with Verizon receive a discount on television, Internet and home phone services. Those who do not have a cell phone can still receive a discount by signing a two-year contract on whichever service they purchase.
