Verizon FiOS and Time Warner Cable offer a variety of services and subscription packages to suit customers with a wide range of cable television needs. Choosing between the two companies should include comparisons of several aspects of each service. Pay particular attention to a few key components of each respective provider's coverage to make the wisest choice for your situation.
Step 1
Choose the channels and cable services you want as part of your cable TV package. Find the pre-designed package from both Verizon and Time Warner that matches your choices closest.
Step 2
Determine the cost and available content for the type of programming you will need. For customers with an HDTV, compare the HD programming packages and high-definition set-top box capabilities from each carrier.
Step 3
Compare the cost of combining your television service with your phone and Internet service. Each service provider provides bundling options, with Verizon and Time Warner offering different promotional periods with varying pricing.
Step 4
Compare the selection of "On-Demand" programming. The standard on-demand programming includes shows and movies from the channels to which you have subscribed. Additional on-demand listings are unique to the provider.
Step 5
Compare the included equipment. Set-top boxes for Verizon FiOS service are capable of delivering high-definition content as well as digital video recording (DVR) in HD. Verizon FiOS also has an iPhone application for establishing a highly functional remote control. Time Warner has similar options for set-top boxes as well as available applications for iPad.
Step 6
Contact your local service installer to determine the cost of installation. Periodically, each service provider will offer promotional rates for installation. Customers who have homes or apartments previously wired for either service may be able to establish new service at a lower cost for installation.
Step 7
Find out what is involved with the process of the service installation for each service. Renters may need to furnish permission from the landlord or owner before certain types of installation can be performed.
