Time Warner cable service provides television programming via cable connection. In addition, it bundles phone service and Internet broadband. The company calls its Internet offering Road Runner High Speed Online. If desired, it is possible to simply connect your laptop directly to the Timer Warner cable modem to get a connection on the laptop without using a router.
Step 1
Connect the white coaxial cable between the wall outlet and the cable modem by screwing the ends onto the connector plugs.
Step 2
Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the cable modem and the other end into the laptop's network jack. The Ethernet cable is the phone-like cable with push-in connectors. Remove and set aside any USB cable connected to the modem. A USB cable pushes in, but does not click into place like the Ethernet cable does.
Step 3
Plug the power cord of the cable modem into an electrical outlet and allow it to power up. There may be a "Power" switch on the front of the device that you need to press. Allow the lights on the modem to illuminate while it synchs. This can take a few minutes.
Step 4
Install the "Road Runner Self Connect" software on the laptop by inserting the disc into the laptop's drive bay. Allow the disc to load, and follow the prompts to install the software. Open a browser and type in the name of a common website. The web browser will load the website and you'll be connected.
