You can connect an Ethernet switch to your Embarq DSL modem to share the DSL broadband connection to multiple computers in your home or office. Ethernet switches perform similarly to wired routers but are better suited for handling large amounts of data and numerous computers. The switch installs with standard networking cables and you won't have to rely on any outside help getting it up and working.
Step 1
Remove the power cable from the Embarq DSL modem.
Step 2
Connect one side of the Ethernet cable into the "Internet" port on your DSL modem.
Step 3
Connect the other side of the Ethernet cable into the "Internet" port on the rear of the switch.
Step 4
Plug the power adapter into the port on the rear of the switch and turn your Embarq DSL modem. This will reboot your modem and establish a connection to the switch. The "Power" and "Internet" lights will illuminate on the switch indicating the connection is successful.
