Getting high-speed Internet service, such as DSL, allows you to surf the web faster with your Dell 2350. Old fashioned dial-up connections are far too slow for intensive things like viewing videos and downloading large files. With a DSL modem you can increase your speed and get more done. When you sign up for DSL service, the Internet service provider should send you a kit with everything you need, including the DSL modem, filters for your telephone line and the cabling you need to make the connection.
Step 1
Check the back of your Dell 2350 for an Ethernet network card. The connection in the card looks like a telephone line, but it is slightly larger. This port allows you to connect the DSL modem via Ethernet. If you do not have an Ethernet connection, you can use USB instead. If you do have Ethernet, you should use that option, since it is generally faster than USB.
Step 2
Connect the DSL modem to one end of the two outlet phone adapter, using the RJ11 phone cable. Connect the DSL filter to the other end of the two-outlet adapter.
Step 3
Run your existing telephone cord to the DSL filter. Connect the two outlet adapter to your telephone wall jack. Turn off your Dell 2350.
Step 4
Connect the Ethernet cable from the network cord in the Dell 2350 to the RJ45 port in the DSL modem. If your Dell 2350 does not have Ethernet, use the USB cable instead.
Step 5
Plug the power cord into the DSL modem and power it on. Wait for all the lights on the modem to show green.
Step 6
Turn the Dell 2350 back on and insert the installation disk that came with your DSL starter kit. Install the software according to the instructions provided by the ISP. Each ISP uses different settings for network connectivity, and you need to enter the information provided to ensure a good gateway to the Internet.
