FiOS Digital Voice from Verizon and Xfinity Voice from Comcast both offer home phone service in several plan options. FiOS is fiber optic voice service from Verizon, offering over 20 calling features. Bundle plans of FiOS TV, FiOS Internet and Verizon home phone service are available from Verizon, as well. Xfinity Voice from Comcast is digital home phone service with 12 calling features. Comcast also provides Triple Play packages for voice, television and Interent service.

FiOS Features

Twenty calling features are available from FiOS with voice service plans. These features focus on privacy, convenience and control. Privacy features include caller ID, automatic call rejection for numbers blocking their caller ID information, and call blocking for up to 10 numbers. Convenience features consist of email notifications of voicemail messages and call forwarding to up to three numbers and more. Control features such as online phone management and sending calls directly to voicemail are also available with FiOS.

Comcast Features

Features available with voice service from Comcast include the ability to check voicemail from your computer or smartphone, email notifications of voicemails, call waiting, caller ID, call screening, call forwarding, 3-Way Calling, speed dial and caller ID blocking. International calling is also an available feature, whether customers want to pay a minute-by-minute rate to more than 200 countries or purchase 100 anytime minutes to Asia, Western Europe, Mexico and Latin America.

FiOS Plans

To find information on FiOS plans in your location, you must enter your address into Verizon's website to check availability. Plans and pricing depend on your address. Verizon home phone service is available in Verizon's FiOS Triple Play plan as well, but this does not include FiOS voice. This plan offers FiOS TV Prime HD, which provides over 195 channels, 50 of which are HD; FiOS Internet service, which offers download speeds of 15 Mbps, and Verizon home phone service with unlimited local and nationwide calling.

Comcast Plans

Comcast's voice plans consist of a Local Plus More plan, an Unlimited plan and the Triple Play plans. The Local Plus More plan provides unlimited local calling with a per-minute rate for long distance calls. The Unlimited plan includes unlimited calling locally and to the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. The Triple Play plans provide Comcast digital cable television service, high-speed Internet service and Comcast voice. There are several Triple Play plan options available, and the more expensive plans include more cable channels and faster Internet download speeds.
