Instructions for a Time Warner Universal Remote

by Luther Blissett, Demand Media

The CLIKR universal remote is designed to work with a variety of different cable boxes offered by Time Warner as well as a large number of different TVs, VCRs, DVD players and home theater receivers. The remote can control up to five different devices and offers many of the features found on factory remotes including an illumination feature. Fortunately, all of the information needed to program the universal remote is available directly from Time Warner.

Step 1

Program the remote's component buttons by manually turning on the selected device and then holding the appropriate component button along with the "SEL/OK" button simultaneously for three seconds. Then point the remote at the device and enter the three digit code listed next to the device's name in the manual. If the code entered is correct, the device will turn off. Enter codes until the device turns off. Test the volume and other relevant buttons before pressing the component button again to save the code. Enter a new code for the device following the same process if none of the buttons on the remote control the device.

Step 2

Turn a device on by pressing the "TV", "AUX", "VCR", "DVD" or "CBL" button and pressing the "Power" button located on the top right corner of the remote. Unless one of the specific device buttons is pressed, the remote reverts to controlling the cable box.

Step 3

Set the "System ON/OFF" button to turn on and off all of the devices simultaneously. Press the "CBL" button and then press and hold the "OK/SEL" and "System ON/OFF" buttons simultaneously for three seconds. Then press the buttons for the components that will be turned on and off followed by the "Power" button. After entering the components, press the "CH+" button to save the changes.

Step 4

Program the "Macro" button to access a set list of TV channels anytime the button is pressed. Enter the remote's "Cable" mode by pressing the "CBL" button. Enter the Macro mode by pressing and holding the "M" and "OK/SEL" buttons simultaneously for three seconds. Then enter the channels that will be stored. Press the "Stop" button after entering each channel number. After entering the three channels, press the "CH+" button to save the changes.
