How to Set Up the Remote With Time Warner Cable

by Chad Buleen, Demand Media

When you subscribe to Time Warner cable service, the company provides you with a remote control for your cable box or DVR that can be programmed to be used with a variety of TVs, sound systems, DVD players and other devices that are part of your home theater system. Because there are hundreds of ways you can set up your remote (depending on the types and brand names of the devices you own), it is impossible for one set of instructions to apply to all users. Time Warner features a "Program Your Remote" tool that customizes this process for you.

Step 1

Open your Web browser of choice and visit Time Warner's "Program Your Remote" page.

Step 2

Click on the image of the remote on the screen that matches your remote.

Step 3

Scroll about half-way down the next page that opens. Select the device with which you want to program your remote in the "Device" drop-down menu. Then click the brand of the device in the "Brand" drop-down menu.

Step 4

Follow the instructions that appear on the screen. These instructions are specific to the choices you made regarding the type of remote you own and what kind of device you want to connect to it.
