FiOS television is a fiber optic television service offered by Verizon. Fiber optic television provides the user with a clearer picture and higher quality without taking away any of the popular features offered by many cable providers such as the DVR. Verizon's FiOS TV not only offers DVR service, it also provides the customer with several options from which to choose.

What is FiOS TV?

FiOS TV is a television service offered by Verizon that uses fiber optic technology rather than standard copper wiring. Verizon delivers quality picture and fewer interruptions than cable and satellite TV with its FiOS technology in addition to a wide range of HD programs. Not only does fiber optic technology result in better picture quality but it also results in faster downloads of pay-per-view movies and it all comes with Verizon's extensive On Demand library.

Will a DVR Work with FiOS?

Verizon's FiOS television operates much like any standard cable service in that its users can still benefit from the use of additional features such as DVRs. FiOS DVRs allow users to pause and rewind live television in addition to recording movies and shows. Verizon customers can schedule recordings of their favorite shows to be played back at a later date or after the show has begun in order to fast forward through commercials. DVR service can be added to any FiOS television package for an additional monthly fee.

Types of FiOS DVRs

Two types of DVRs are available to Verizon's FiOS customers. The HD DVR is recommended for single-television households or for families that typically only use one television at a time. The HD DVR records both standard definition and HD programming that can be played back on one television in the house. Verizon's Multi-Room DVR offers more than 80 hours of standard definition recording and it can be used to share recordings across multiple TVs in the house. The Multi-Room DVR can record up to two shows at once, both HD and standard definition. As of the time of publication, HD DVR service can be added to any FiOS TV plan for $15.99 per month and the Multi-Room DVR for $19.99 per month.

Additional FiOS Features

Verizon's FiOS customers can do more than just watch TV. FiOS users have access to an interactive media guide and a number of tools and widgets that can be used to check weather and traffic and to visit popular websites like Facebook and Twitter. In addition to these handy tools, FiOS makes using their service even more convenient for customers by allowing them to access their service online. Users can set their DVR over the Internet or via a web-enabled mobile device and even check TV listings, watch trailers, and order pay-per-view movies.
