Will a Comcast Cable Modem Work for a PS2 Online?

The PS2 network adapter for Ethernet and modem can be used to connect your PS2 to your Comcast cable modem. Connection requires two Ethernet cables. One end of the first Ethernet cable plugs into the modem, and the other into the Ethernet port on the adapter. The second Ethernet cable plugs into the adapter and the PS2 Ethernet port located on the back of the console. If you have a PS2 Slim model, it already has a built-in network adapter, so all you need to do is connect your modem to the PS2 with an Ethernet cable.

To enable your PS2 to read your modem, you need to turn it off, wait five minutes, and then turn it back on again. This makes the modem "power cycle" or refresh its ISP. Once this is done, the modem can be plugged into the PS2 with an Ethernet cable. If you have a wireless router with a network or LAN port, it needs to be plugged into the PS2 Network adapter.

Occasionally, when the PS2 connects to the Internet it will ask you to type the TCP numbers or the DNS server/ISP address. This information can be found on your computer. To get this information, click "Start." Click "Run" and type "winipcfg" in the text box or "ipconfig". Click "OK." A dialog box will open on the screen with the TCP numbers/ISP information. Expand the window by clicking the arrows to open the drop-down menus. Do this twice, then click on the network adapter Ethernet. Click "More Info." A window will appear with your ISP number. Type in the number and it should connect to the Internet.

There are many PS2 games that can be played online. Sports games like NBA 2K10, Major League Baseball 2K9 and Madden NFL 2005 can be updated with new team rosters. Other PS2 games, such as Final Fantasy XI and Resident Evil Outbreak, allow you to play with another person online. Some PS2 games are only compatible with a broadband connection, such as one you can get with Comcast. These games will have the words "Broadband Only" on the front cover of the box.
