The rise of the Internet and personal computing has spiked in the past decade, with broadband Internet connections now outnumbering dial-up connections. When making the upgrade to cable Internet service provided by Comcast you will find that, unlike dial-up, a special piece of equipment called a cable modem is required to connect to the Internet. Setting up your new cable modem is a simple task that will have you on-line in no time.

Step 1

Screw the coaxial cable for your Internet service into the "Cable" port of your new cable modem.

Step 2

Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the "Ethernet" port on the new modem and plug the other end into your computer's Ethernet jack or router's "Modem" jack. Substitute a USB cable if your modem has a USB port and your computer has no network card.

Step 3

Plug your modem's power adapter into the modem, then into a power receptacle.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you use a router, unplug your router before connecting to the modem. Connect the modem to the router, wait 30 seconds, and then plug the router in to ensure the devices don't conflict.
