When you sign a contract with Verizon for Internet services, the company provides you with the necessary equipment to connect to its network. Depending on what plan you're using, you may have paid for this equipment upfront, or Verizon might have loaned it to you on the agreement that you'd return it when you no longer use their services. If your contract is up and you want to keep the modem, you can contact Verizon and officially obtain the equipment for your own personal use.
Step 1
Call Verizon High Speed Internet customer service at 800-837-4966. Follow the automatic prompts to connect to a customer service representative.
Step 2
Give the customer service representative your account number and any other information that she requests to identify you as the account holder.
Step 3
Explain that your service contract has expired or will be expiring soon and you wish to keep the equipment. The representative will be able to look up what equipment you received at the beginning of the service contract.
Step 4
Give the representative your payment information to pay for the equipment.
Tips & Warnings
- If you don't pay for the equipment through the appropriate channels and instead simply keep it, Verizon can assess an equipment fee that can be passed along to a collections agency.
