A DSL modem uses the telephone line to bring an Internet connection to a computer. You can improve the functioning of the DSL modem's interaction with the computer that it is servicing. Settings are modified on the computer using a unique, free software program created by a Windows enthusiast that interacts with the operating system. The tweak will not negatively affect the DSL modem or the computer.
Step 1
Download a TCP Optimizer registry program. Double-click the file once it has fully downloaded to the desktop. Let the program's window appear on the screen before continuing.
Step 2
Click the "Connection Speed" slider with the mouse. Hold down the mouse as you drag the slider to the right so that it is pointing to the "20 MPS" labeled text. Release the slider.
Step 3
Click the "Apply changes" button at the bottom of the window. Close the window by clicking the "Exit" button. Restart the computer.
