How to Program a Comcast DVR Remote

by Alice Godfrey, Demand Media

A Comcast DVR (digital video recorder) is a cable box that allows television programs to be recorded and viewed at a later time. To enable the remote that comes with the DVR to control another device -- for example, a TV -- activate a syncing mechanism in the remote. This programming procedure is straightforward but does require knowing the manufacturer and model number of the device that the Comcast DVR remote is going to control.

Step 1

Turn on the device that you want to program the Comcast DVR remote to control.

Step 2

Press the "Mode" key on the remote once that has the same name as that of the device -- for example, "TV."

Step 3

Press and hold the "Setup" key until the "Mode" key starts to blink. Release the "Setup" key.

Step 4

Locate the manufacturer of the device in the "Code" section at the back of the user's guide that comes with the Comcast DVR.

Step 5

Enter the first of the four-digit codes, one button after the other, that are listed next to the manufacturer. Do nothing until you see the "Mode" key blink twice.

Step 6

Aim the front of the remote at the Comcast DVR. Press the "Power" button to turn the Comcast DVR on. If the DVR does not turn on, press and hold the "Setup" key and repeat the procedure just completed, this time using the next four-digit code that is listed with the manufacturer.
