How to Use One DVR On Any TV In the House

by Si Kingston, Demand Media

Sometimes you want to watch a program in one room that you recorded on the DVR connected to a TV in another room. This poses an even bigger problem if that television is currently being watched by someone else. You can remedy this issue by installing DVR receivers. Not all cable and satellite companies offer this service, but those that do allow you to install one central DVR. Then use additional receiver boxes connected to the other televisions to view all programs recorded on the hard disk of the central DVR.

Step 1

Order cable or satellite service from a company that offers whole-home DVR. As of 2011, DirecTV, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS and AT&T; U-verse were some of the only companies to offer this service.

Step 2

Install the DVR to one TV in your home. Install boxes that are capable of receiving the signal on the other TVs.

Step 3

Turn on the TV and tune to a show that you want to record, and press the "Record" button the remote. Or, click on the "Guide" button and find a show that you want to record. Select "Record" to record the program.

Step 4

Turn on another TV that has the receiver installed. Click the "List" button to view recorded programs. Use the arrow keys to highlight a program that you want to view. Click "Select" to play it.
