How to Switch to Cablevision From Verizon

by Craig Sernotti, Demand Media

Cablevision is a regional cable company servicing New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. It offers high-speed Internet and digital television and calling, similar to what Verizon FiOS offers. If you are a FiOS customer living in Cablevision's territory and feel you might prefer Cablevision's Optimum service, you can cancel FiOS and make the switch.

Step 1

Call the Cablevision sales number for your specific region. Follow the prompts to reach a sales representative.

Step 2

Inform the representative that you want to purchase Cablevision's services. Choose a bundle that replaces your Verizon services.

Step 3

Schedule an appointment for a Cablevision technician to come to your home to install your new services. The technician will set up the equipment needed to use the services.

Step 4

Call Verizon at 1-800-Verizon (1-800-837-4966) and follow the prompts to reach a customer service representative. Tell the representative you wish to cancel your services. If you are currently in a contract with Verizon, you may have to pay early termination fees.

Step 5

Return your Verizon equipment at a local service center. This includes your cable box, remote control and modem. Customers rent these from Verizon, so if they are not returned you may be subject to additional fees.
