How Do I Know If I Can Purchase Comcast Service?

by Craig Sernotti, Demand Media

Comcast offers phone, Internet and television services to residential and commercial customers. It is one of the largest providers of these services in the U.S. Comcast services typically come with free access to TV shows and movies through On Demand, unlimited calls to any number in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, and free, downloadable Norton Antivirus software. There are certain factors you must consider before purchasing Comcast services.

Location

While it is a national provider, Comcast is not ubiquitous, so services may or may not be available in your area. You have to be in a Comcast service area to subscribe. You can contact your local municipality, which should have a list of the cable providers that provide service to residents. Ask if Comcast is one such company.

Cost

Besides location, the most important factor to consider before purchasing Comcast services is cost. You will be charged monthly fees for your Comcast TV, phone and Internet services. You may receive a special introductory offer when you order the services, and these may be fixed for three months, six months or even a year, but once this term ends you will have to pay full price. These fees might increase as you continue with the service.

Equipment

Customers need a television, a computer and a home phone before they can take advantage of all Comcast services. A cable box will also be needed to connect your television to cable service. These are typically provided by Comcast for a monthly fee. You may also need to have your home wired for cable service.

Contact Comcast

The easiest way to learn if you can purchase Comcast services is to contact the company directly. Call Comcast's toll-free phone number (1-800-266-2278) and follow the new customer prompts. A customer service representative will confirm whether you can order service, as well as supply you with information about the various packages offered and available promotions. You can choose from different bundles of phone, Internet and cable services.
