Telecommunications companies often offer price savings to customers who choose to purchase multiple services from the same company. Qwest Communications, purchased in April 2011 by CenturyLink, and Comcast both offer bundles to customers interested in purchasing two or more services from them. Both companies offer Internet, television and telephone services.
Services
Qwest Communications offers four services to its customers -- Internet, telephone, television through DirectTV and cellular service through Verizon Wireless. Internet services available for bundling have a speed of either 1.5 megabytes per second or 7 megabytes per second. Unlimited telephone service, 210 or more channels on DirectTV and basic wireless service can also be bundled. Comcast offers three services that can be bundled -- Internet, television and telephone. Internet speeds are either 15 megabytes per second or 20 megabytes per second. Between 160 and 200 television channels are available for bundling and telephone service is unlimited.
Bundles of Three Services
Qwest Communications offers only one bundle that includes three services: Internet with download speeds of up to 1.5 megabytes per second, DirectTV with over 210 channels and unlimited calling are bundled in this package. Comcast customers have four different "Triple Play" bundles to choose from. Each package includes unlimited nationwide calling. The Starter package also includes 80 television channels and the slower Internet speed. The Preferred package includes the slower Internet speed and 160 television channels. The Preferred Plus package includes the faster Internet speed and 170 channels, while the Premier package offers the faster Internet speed and 200 television channels.
Bundles of Two Services
For bundles of two services, customers of Qwest Communications can choose unlimited phone service and either 7 megabytes per second or 1.5 megabytes per second Internet speed. Comcast customers can choose from three different bundles of two services. They can bundle 80 television channels with either the faster Internet speed or unlimited calling, or they can choose to bundle fast Internet with unlimited calling.
Build Your Own Bundle
Customers of Qwest Communications can also create their own bundle of two to four services. Bundles must begin with 1.5 megabytes per second Internet speed and unlimited calling. You can then add DirectTV with over 210 channels or basic cellular service from Verizon Wireless.
