Verizon DSL-Compatible DSL Modems

by Steven Hill , Demand Media

Verizon offers customers digital subscriber line, or DSL, service through its high speed Internet products. When you subscribe to this type of service, you must use a DSL modem or gateway in order to access the connection. Not all modems and gateways are compatible with all services. You must determine whether your modem is compatible before you use it.

GT704WG Gateway

The GT704WG Gateway DSL modem manufactured by Actiontec is compatible with Verizon DSL service. This device requires a computer with an active Ethernet connection running on either a Windows or Mac-based operating system. It supports speeds of either 10 or 100 Mbps when using wired connections, and can support an 802.11g wireless network. Supported Wide Area Network types in PPP, DHCP and Static IP. The gateway provides four Ethernet ports for wired home networking.

VersaLink 327W Gateway

Verizon members also use the VersaLink 327W Gateway from Westell with DSL service. This device provides wireless networking in addition to DSL service through available 802.11 "B" and "G" network types. System requirements for this modem include either a Windows or Mac-based operating system with a minimum of 64 MBs or RAM and either a 10/100 Ethernet card or a Wireless B/G compatible Wi-FI card. Up to four computers can be plugged into the available Ethernet ports.

GT701C Modem

The GT701C DSL modem from Actiontec can also support Verizon DSL services. This device is a DSL modem only, meaning that you'd have to plug into a router in order to share a connection. It does not provide any networking service, nor can it create a wireless network. Users can connect a computer or router to the modem using either a USB or an Ethernet cable. A Windows or Mac computer is required to use this modem.

7500 Wireless Gateway

The VersaLink 7500 Wireless Gateway by Westell can also be used with Verizon DSL. This product functions as both a DSL modem and a networking center. The gateway provides wireless networking in either a "B" or "G" type 802.11 network. It can support both public and private networks simultaneously. Computers with at least 64 MB of RAM running Windows or OSX are required for the usage of this modem. Users may also connect to the modem using a USB connection.
