How to Get Recordings Off of a DVR

by Chris Miksen, Demand Media

Forced to attend a wedding on the night of the big game, causing you to miss the most pivotal moment of your team's season? If you have a digital video recorder, you can watch the game in its entirety after you come home. Anytime you choose to record a program with your DVR, the device saves the program until you delete it. As you record more programs, you will eventually reach the capacity of the DVR. To delete programs and free up space on your DVR, you can use your DVR remote.

Step 1

Turn on both your TV and the DVR box. Press "DVR" or something similar on your remote. If you don't see a "DVR" button, press the "Menu" button and select "DVR" from the menu options.

Step 2

Click "Recordings" or something similar, such as "My Recordings" or "Saved Recordings." The list of your recordings appears. If you have several recordings, the list may take a few minutes to load.

Step 3

Use the arrow buttons on your remote to scroll up and down and highlight the recording you wish to delete. Press the "Select" or "Enter" button on your remote. A menu appears. Click the "Delete" or "Remove" icon, which is typically indicated by an "X." Most DVRs will ask for confirmation prior to deleting the program. Press "Yes" to delete the recording.
