How to Set Up Comcast Without Software

by Jason Taetsch, Demand Media

Comcast provides broadband Internet service to your home or office via cable lines. Your Comcast Internet service includes software utilities to assist you in connecting your various devices to the Internet. While the programs may be useful for some users, you do not necessarily need the software to setup your Comcast Internet service. Advances in Internet technology have become more complex, but the setup process for your equipment is still straightforward.

Step 1

Connect one end of the coaxial cable to the RF jack associated with your Comcast service. Attach the other end of the cable to the RF jack on the rear of the Comcast modem.

Step 2

Plug the power adapter into the port on the modem and connect the other side to a nearby power outlet. The modem will initialize and establish a connection with your Internet service. Wait for the power and Internet lights to illuminate after a couple of minutes.

Step 3

Connect the Ethernet cable into the Internet port on the rear of the modem and plug the other side of the cable into the networking port on your computer.
