Comcast is currently one of the leading cable broadband Internet service providers in the United States. However, Comcast service is only available in select regions throughout the States. To connect to the Internet via Comcast's broadband Internet service you must reside in an area where Comcast is available and you must set up a Comcast high-speed Internet account. As a Comcast high-speed Internet customer, you can then choose to install your Comcast Internet service yourself. The company may charge a fee if you have a Comcast technician set up the connection for you.
Step 1
Contact the Comcast customer service center. Inform the Comcast customer service representative that you would like to sign up for Comcast high-speed Internet service. The representative will verify the availability of the service in your area. If you are in an area where Comcast high-speed Internet service is available the representative will go over the various service plan options currently offered, allow you to select a plan, set up your account and schedule an appointment to have a Comcast technician to install the primary Comcast cable wiring in your home, if needed. You also will be mailed a self-installation kit.
Step 2
Insert the coaxial cable, coming from the cable wall outlet installed by the Comcast technician, to the cable modem's Coax "Cable" terminal. Twist the screw connector on the cable plug clockwise until finger tight to secure the cable to the terminal.
Step 3
Connect the modem power cable to its DC Power jack and plug the other end of the power cable into an electrical outlet. Turn on the modem.
Step 4
Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the modem Ethernet jack. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the computer Ethernet jack.
Step 5
Log onto the computer using an account with administrator rights.
Step 6
Launch the computer's Web browser. You will be presented with a set of instructions on how to download the Comcast installation software. Follow the on-screen instructions to download the software to your computer.
Step 7
Launch the Comcast installation application. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete your Comcast broadband set up. This includes, among other things, creating a Comcast username and password for your account.
