How to Setup Comcast Email on Vista Windows Mail

by Craig Sernotti, Demand Media

Windows Mail is a basic native email client that comes preinstalled on computers with the Windows Vista operating system. You can add your various email accounts to Windows Mail and manage your messages and newsgroups. Comcast provides a free email account when you sign up for its Internet, phone or cable services. It is primarily accessed through the official Comcast webpage, but you can configure Windows Mail to manage your Comcast email account.

Step 1

Click the Windows "Start" button in your computer's taskbar. It is an orb containing the Windows logo. Click "All Programs" in the menu that appears, and then click "Windows Mail."

Step 2

Click "Tools" in the menu at the top of your screen, and click "Accounts" in the drop-down menu that appears. This opens the Internet Accounts window.

Step 3

Click the "Add" button in the Internet Accounts window.

Step 4

Select "Email Account" in the list of options and then click the "Next" button.

Step 5

Enter the name that you want to appear in messages that will be sent through Windows Mail in the "Display name" field, and then click the "Next" button.

Step 6

Enter your Comcast email address in the "Email address" field, and then press the "Next" button.

Step 7

Enter "mail.comcast.net" in the "Incoming Server" field, and then enter "smtp.comcast.net" in the "Outgoing Server" field. Click the "Next" button when done.

Step 8

Enter your Comcast username and password in the appropriate fields, and then click the "Next" button. You should then receive a confirmation screen saying you have successfully added your Comcast account to Windows Mail. Click the "Finish" button to exit the setup window and to download your emails into Windows Mail.
