If you've bought a new high-definition television (HDTV), you'll want to hook up your high-definition cable box to get the most out of it. HDTVs offer a crisper, clearer widescreen picture over standard-resolution televisions. Connecting your cable to the television is simple, though the exact process may vary slightly depending on television manufacturer and cable supplier. It is important to refer to any instructions included with equipment for device-specific instructions.
Step 1
Place the cable box on a shelf below the HDTV, or in another appropriate location.
Step 2
Connect an HDMI cable from the cable box's "HDMI Out" port to the HDTV's "HDMI In" port. The ports are typically located on the back of the units. If the HDTV has multiple HDMI ports, remember the port number.
Step 3
Plug the included power adapter into the back of the cable box and into an electrical outlet. Do the same for the HDTV if it has not been plugged in yet.
Step 4
Connect a coaxial cable from the cable port in the wall to the back of the cable box. Some cable boxes will have two coaxial connections. This allows you to record two channels simultaneously (if the box supports DVR functionality). You may need a splitter if you plan to connect to both connections.
Step 5
Power on the cable box. It may take a few minutes for the cable box to boot up. Power on the HDTV and navigate to the proper video source to begin watching television.
